Another lovely little Waiheke elopement wedding.  I really love being part of these small and intimate weddings, and Sian and Gareth’s wedding day was just beautiful.  Waiheke had been assailed by some pretty nasty weather for the two days before the wedding day and on the day no one was actually quite sure what to expect.  But the weather gods were kind to us – we got a real mix, a little rain with some lovely soft cloud and a whole lot of sunshine and blue sky.

Sian and Gareth had their ceremony at The Boatshed over-looking Little Oneroa Bay. I really love doing weddings at The Boatshed.  It has such a great vibe and so many stunning areas to take photos - a photographer’s paradise!

We went down to Palm Beach for some seaside shots to show off our lovely beaches here on Waiheke.

Oooh, lovely stuff!  Thanks Sian and Gareth for inviting me to be part of your special and lovely wedding – it was gorgeous.

Being concerned about the arrival of the Tooth Fairy was one of those things that had never crossed my mind until one of my clients said that they wanted to get their children photographed ‘before the twins lost their front teeth’.  This mum said she knew that once her kids had lost their baby teeth and their new adult teeth started to come in that their faces would begin to change.  They would start to look more grown up.  More like ‘kids’, less like the little preschoolers she and her husband had dedicated their last 5 years to. 

It’s a question that I frequently get asked;  when is the best time to have your children photographed? 

Of course, there is no correct answer as each child is different and there are so many lovely ages and stages in childhood.  Each one is worth capturing; a newborn baby is lovely because they are sleepy and wrinkly (and you will never believe when you look back that they really were that small!), 3-4 months is great because they start to interact with the world a little more and you get some fabulous quirky expressions, 6-8 months works really well because they are just starting to sit up and their whole body shape begins to change, 12-15months is a fabulous time because they are walking and getting into everything, so inquisitive but still not quite speedy enough to cause true mayhem!  And so on, and so forth…  Anytime is a great time to photograph your children, every moment is unique.

BUT, when my little girl’s front tooth started to wiggle in a dangerous fashion I decided that it was high time I got her into the studio for her last portrait with her baby front teeth…

Lucky I did, because a couple of months later…
