I must admit that I have a real soft spot in my heart for elopement weddings… they are always so personal and intimate, and such a lovely day to be part of. Capturing the occasion for family back home is so important, and a great reason to make sure a professional photographer is on hand to capture the big (little) day.
Alex and Guy decided to elope to Waiheke from the UK for their special wedding day and chose to stay and have their ceremony at the wonderful Boatshed, which looks out over Little Oneroa beach. Following their ceremony we went down to Oneroa beach for some photos before finishing up at Cable Bay Vineyards, where the happy couple had booked their evening meal.
Alex and Guy bought special gifts for each other from a fabulous online shop called Not on the High Street; Alex chose cuff-links which show the longitude and latitude of where Guy proposed and where they married, and Guy got Alex a lucky penny from the year of her father’s birth and engraved it with a special message on the back (the cufflinks were engraved too). So sweet!
Alex (and her friend Becky, who lives in Auckland and was able to come and join in the celebration along with her husband Ralf), had a relaxed and easy start to their day with hair done by Nikki Thompson from Waiheke Hair and Nails and make up by Charlotte Edwardes from Island Beauty.
Guy was keeping himself busy remembering how to tie a windsor knot in a separate part of The Boatshed. It was a beautiful summer’s day, and he was beginning to feel the heat a little in his stylish three piece suit.
Ready to go!
Alex wore some vintage family earrings, featuring a central sapphire set in sparkley jewels with a pearl drop; a lovely mix of playful and elegant (rather like the bride herself, methinks!).
Alex and Guy had a private meeting together in the gardens before arriving hand in hand for their ceremony.
Alex and Guy had a good ol’ kiwi pavlova as their wedding cake (seen here with their bridal ducks, mascots who are traveling around with them and being photographed in new locations along the journey).
Love this one above!!
The vines at Cable Bay were perfect! Fresh and green and the perfect height for photos, not to mention the lovely soft light we were lucky enough to have as the day drew to a close.
I adore these photos of Alex looking relaxed and happy as she plays with her gorgeous dress, purchased from Isobels’s Bridal, (located conveniently just down the road from her home in the UK).
Thank you so much Alex and Guy – I had a most excellent day with you both and loved capturing your Waiheke Island elopement for you. Hope you family and friends enjoy seeing this selection of photos from your day… Please feel free to leave a comment for the happy couple.
